Game Rules
The game rules for Roulette are relatively simple. You need to place your wager before the dealer calls for final bets. In online Roulette games this can vary, it is usually about a second after the ball has been dropped into the wheel, but it can sometimes be as the ball is dropped into the wheel.
If your bet wins then you will be paid your winnings, if it doesn’t win then you will lose. It’s as simple as that.
There are also two types of rule that only come into play in certain types of Roulette. The first is La Partage. This is offered in some versions of European and French Roulette. We will talk more about the different types of Roulette later on. This rule comes into force when you have placed an even money bet. This is something else we will talk a bit more about later on. Whenever an even money bet is placed and the ball lands on the zero, the La Partage rule means that half of the bet will be returned to the player. If the La Partage rule isn’t in play, then the house will keep the money when the ball lands on zero.
There is another rule that is very similar to La Partage. This is called En Prison. This also comes into play when the ball lands on the zero after an even money bet is placed. This time instead of returning half of the winnings and moving on, the bet will be placed in prison. Then, on the next spin of the wheel, if the bet wins the full value of the bet will be returned. However, if the bet loses on the second spin the house will keep the wager.
Type of Bets
There are a lot of different bets available when playing Roulette, but there are two main groups of bets. The first group of bets are the outside bets and there are five of these. The first set of outside bets the most famous of all. Red or black. This means you choose if you think the ball will land on a red number or a black number. This pays out evens, so is an even money bet.
The second outside bet is odds or evens. This is simple to understand as well. You choose if you think the ball will land on an odd number or an even number. This also pays out even money. The final outside bet is either 1 - 18 or 19 - 36. This means that you bet on the ball landing on one of the first 18 numbers or one of the last 18 numbers. It also pays out even money.
The last two sets of outside bets don’t pay out even money. These both pay out odds of 2/1. These sets are the dozens and columns. The dozens splits the numbers into 4x3 boxes, which means there are three different choices available. The columns splits the numbers into single 12 number long columns. This also means that there are three choices available.
The other group of bets that are on offer is the inside bets. These all offer different odds depending on the bet that you choose.
The first is a straight up. This is picking just a single number and it pays odds of 35/1.
The second is a spit. This is two adjacent numbers on the board and pays odds of 17/1.
Next up is a basket. This is either 0, 1 and 2 or 0, 2 and 3. A street also pays out the same odds as a basket and that is any three numbers in a horizontal line. They pay out 11/1.
Then we have a corner. This is four numbers that are grouped together as a square. That pays out 8/1.
Finally, we have a six line. This is any six numbers that are on two rows. This one pays out 5/1.
Different Versions
The different variations of Roulette are all essentially the same. However, they do have some slight rule changes that gives players some differences to think about. The first is the difference between American Roulette and European Roulette. American Roulette has two separate slots for 0. It has a green 0 and a green 00. European Roulette just has the single 0 slot. Both games pay out the same odds, even though there is an extra slot on the American wheel. This means that European Roulette gives players a better chance of winning.
Players from India might also notice that French Roulette is sometimes an option at online casinos. French Roulette is very similar to European Roulette, except that it will offer either the En Prison or La Partage rules.
There is also sometimes a rapid Roulette available. This is a turbocharged version of Roulette and is played at a much faster pace.
